CuZn36 Brass / Copper tubes

CuZn36, a copper-zinc alloy, is commonly known as brass. CuZn36 brass is an alloy containing about 64% copper and 36% zinc. This alloy has a lower copper content in the brass family but a higher zinc content, so it has some specific physical and mechanical properties suitable for various industrial applications. Due to its excellent mechanical properties and processing properties, CuZn36 is widely used in the manufacture of various mechanical parts, fasteners, springs, etc.

Chemical composition

The chemical composition of CuZn36 is as follows:

· Copper (Cu): 63.5-65.5%

· Iron (Fe): ≤0.05%

· Nickel (Ni): ≤0.3%

· Lead (Pb): ≤0.05%

· Aluminum (Al): ≤0.02%

· Tin (Sn): ≤0.1%

· Others in total: ≤0.1%

· Zinc (Zn): Balance

Physical properties

The physical properties of CuZn36 include:

· Density: 8.4 g/cm³

· Melting point: about 920°C

· Specific heat capacity: 0.377 kJ/kgK

· Young's modulus: 110 GPa

· Thermal conductivity: about 116 W/mK

· Electrical conductivity: about 15.5% IACS (International Demagnetization Standard)

· Linear expansion coefficient: about 20.3 10^-6/K

Mechanical properties

The mechanical properties of CuZn36 vary according to different heat treatment states. The following are some typical performance data:

·Tensile strength (σb): Depending on the heat treatment state, the tensile strength also varies, generally between 460 MPa and 550 MPa.

·Yield strength (σs): Depending on the heat treatment state, the yield strength also varies.

·Elongation (δ): Wires of different diameters have different requirements for elongation. For example, for wires with a diameter of less than or equal to 4mm, the elongation must reach more than 30%.

·Hardness: The hardness of CuZn36 ranges from HBW 55 to 110, and the specific value depends on the specific heat treatment state

Processing properties

CuZn36 has good cold processing properties and can be processed by forging, extrusion, stretching and cold rolling. Due to the high zinc content, the strength of CuZn36 increases with the increase of zinc content, but at the same time, the conductivity and ductility decrease. In addition, CuZn36 can also be connected by brazing and soldering, but due to the high zinc content, special attention should be paid when welding

Corrosion resistance

CuZn36 has good corrosion resistance to water, water vapor, different salt solutions and many organic liquids. It is also suitable for land, marine and industrial atmospheric environments. Under certain conditions, CuZn36 may produce stress corrosion cracking to ammonia atmosphere, but this corrosion can be offset by removing internal stress in many cases

Application areas
CuZn36 brass is commonly found in the following fields:

Mechanical engineering: used to manufacture parts that require a certain hardness and wear resistance, such as valves, pump parts, gears and bearings.

Electrical engineering: Due to its good electrical conductivity, it is used to manufacture electrical connectors, sockets, etc.

Decorations and crafts: Due to its good processing properties and the unique color of brass, CuZn36 alloy is also suitable for the manufacture of decorations and crafts.

CuZn36 has a wide range of applications, including:

·Deep-drawn parts

·Metal products

·Electronic industry

·Connectors

·Mechanical engineering

·Signs and decorations

·Musical instruments, etc.510

Heat treatment system

The heat treatment system of CuZn36 includes annealing, quenching and tempering, etc. These heat treatment methods can improve its mechanical properties and processing performance

Summary:

As an economical and high-performance copper alloy, CuZn36 plays an important role in industrial applications. It combines high strength with good processability and is suitable for a variety of engineering applications, especially when manufacturing parts that require good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Due to its good comprehensive properties, CuZn36 is the preferred material in many industries.
